I look out to the world and see a need. A need to be different. A need to be a light. Most of you all know who I am, you know I’m a missionary kid and with being that comes an urge to fit in where ever I go, I want people to like me.
My life has been a journey of always wanting to fit in and honestly most of the time I failed miserably. I changed the real me many times just to fit in. I’ve learned over time that that’s not ok. Its not ok to change who I am and honestly l look back and think why would I want to be like everyone else? Is that really who God made me to be? Is that really what the world needs?
No, the world needs people that will stand out, be a light, be different. Teens who will be true and real to others and their own selves, teens who will make a difference. Not different in a weird, but in a good way. To be a light in a dark world. Being like everyone else wont make that difference.
If you desire to make a difference in the world, you must be different from the world. – Elaine Dalton
To this day I’m still learning that. It’s still hard for me to stand out, to be the light God wants me to be, but I serve a God who gives me courage when I fail to be me, a God who tells me to keep going forward, a God who is my strength and whispers to me “be a light” when I’m just about to give in and be like everyone else, a God who is my hope when I think people wont like me for who I am, a God who gives me the strength to show the world His love, a God who gives me the words to write, because I truly don’t always feel eloquent enough. I’ve realized I don’t always have to be perfect, I’m human. I will fail, I wont always make the right choices or do the right things. I can always try to do my best though and when I fail, I can put my faith in God to shine through my broken failures.
Then spake Jesus unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
God can do that with you too. He can shine through you. You will never reach perfection or ever be good enough for some people, but with confidence through God you can be you. Be the light he wants you to be, we aren’t called to be like the world. Embrace the wonderful person God made you to be.
